The best way to experience Roanoke Island, with its small towns of Manteo and Wanchese, is to come for the night. Manteo is perfectly quiet and even more special at night and in the early morning. When everyone else has gone home for the day, you'll relish the quiet character of this island as you stroll the quiet streets and moonlit Manteo boardwalk.

And when you wake up here, you’ll see a sunny side of the island that day-trippers seldom get to see. Several bed and breakfast inns welcome guests to the Manteo historic waterfront area. Manteo welcomes guests to its historic waterfront area and beyond with accommodations that range from gracious bed and breakfast inns and guest houses to several small motels. There are also two historic homes that have been transformed into nice bed and breakfast inns in Wanchese. Along U.S. Highway 64/264 there are several other Roanoke Island accommodations options. Here’s a tip: These hotels and motels on the main highway offer less expensive rates than the beach hotels. And remember, this island is only about 10 minutes from Outer Banks beaches. We also let you know about where your pet can board on Roanoke Island if cozying up with you in your hotel or inn room isn’t allowed.
