About Hungry Pelican:
Nesting high above the Manteo waterfront, overlooking the docks and Shallowbag Bay sits the Hungry Pelican. The Pelican was born in Manteo in 2002, but its roots go back over 22 years. The Hungry Pelican is an owner operated deli with over 45 years of combined restaurant experience. The owners have made over 500,000 sandwiches and have satisfied people from all over the country. Only the best deli meats available are used and all of the rolls and breads are baked to order. There are no fried foods offered and the healthy approach to lunch/dinner is reflected in the extra lean meats and fat free pretzels that are served with all the sandwiches. All of the salads are made to order using vegetables that are cut daily. All of the dressings, side dishes, soups and salads are made from scratch. In 2008, a bakery was added enabling us to make all of our desserts homemade. This truly sets the Pelican apart from all other downtown restaurants.
