Welcome to Duck’s Cottage Downtown

Duck’s Cottage Downtown Books begins a new tradition for bookselling in the heart of historic Downtown Manteo! A sister store of Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck, our ten years of experience shows in the variety and breadth of titles on our shelves. Our hand-picked and eclectic selection includes best-sellers, classics, fiction and non-fiction, young adult, a vast array of cookbooks, children’s, a terrific Outer Banks section and more! Special orders are welcome and typically only take a few days. We also carry unique lines of greeting cards, notecards, pens and journals along with a discriminating section of used - we prefer ‘previously read’- books.

Downtown Books also offers a wide collection of Melissa & Doug Toys which focus on a child’s creativity and imagination with hand-puppets, craft kits and a variety of wooden toys. Plush animals, a large variety of puzzles for all ages, beach and garden toys round out the selection.

Do you like a cuppa while you browse for books? Downtown Books has locally roasted coffee and tea from Harney & Sons.

Downtown Books is a place for friends to meet and book lovers to gather; a place for readers to come for special orders… a place to come for book group ideas… a place for children to play or to grab a beanbag and read.. we live by the ABA creed- Peace. Love. Read.

Must Haves:

Blackwood

Blackwood

n Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back. Miranda, a misfit girl from the island's most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can't dodge is each other. Blackwood is a dark, witty coming of age story that combines America's oldest mystery with a thoroughly contemporary romance. $9.99

MEET THE AUTHOR: LISA WINGATE

MEET THE AUTHOR: LISA WINGATE

Wed, September 24th 2014 02:00 p.m.

Lisa Wingate had an Outer Banks hit last year with The Prayer Box, a terrific novel set entirely on Hatteras Island. Lisa's latest release, The Story Keeper, is set in Appalachia and is another great read from Wingate. When successful New York editor Jen Gibbs discovers a decaying slush-pile manuscript on her desk, she has no idea that the story of Sarra, a young mixed-race woman trapped in Appalachia at the turn of the twentieth century, will both take her on a journey and change her forever. Happy with her life in the city, and at the top of her career with a new job at Vida House Publishing, Jen has left her Appalachian past and twisted family ties far behind. But the search for the rest of the manuscript, and Jen's suspicions about the identity of its unnamed author, will draw her into a mystery that leads back to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . and quite possibly through the doors she thought she had closed forever. We got to read an advance copy and were pulled right into this story, intrigued by both the current day aspect and the historical flashbacks. We are so pleased to be welcoming Lisa back to the Outer Banks! More Info...
