Duck’s Cottage Downtown Books begins a new tradition for bookselling in the heart of historic Downtown Manteo! A sister store of Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck, our ten years of experience shows in the variety and breadth of titles on our shelves. Our hand-picked and eclectic selection includes best-sellers, classics, fiction and non-fiction, young adult, a vast array of cookbooks, children’s, a terrific Outer Banks section and more! Special orders are welcome and typically only take a few days. We also carry unique lines of greeting cards, notecards, pens and journals along with a discriminating section of used - we prefer ‘previously read’- books.

Downtown Books also offers a wide collection of Melissa & Doug Toys which focus on a child’s creativity and imagination with hand-puppets, art supplies, craft kits and a variety of wooden toys. Plush animals, a large variety of puzzles for all ages, beach and garden toys round out the selection.

Do you like a cuppa while you browse for books? Downtown Books has freshly roasted artisanal coffee and tea from several companies including Harney & Sons and Two Leaves and a Bud. Take an afternoon break with a cup of Paris or Vanilla tea paired with our delicious biscotti and cookies.

Back by popular demand, Henry Vanderbilt Johnson will be at Downtown Books for Dare Day! Henry is the author of Kronicles of a Kolored Kid, an account of his growing up in Manteo & Englehard. Kronicles has a lot of local backdrops- some gone, some still here; and lots of local mentions. Henry will be signing both this book and the follow-up, as yet untitled.
